George VI (1895-1952) King of the United Kingdom. George VI reigned from 1936 to 1952. George VI served as king of the United Kingdom during World War II and was an important symbolic leader. He was succeeded by Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. 16” x 13” partially printed document signed, Court of St. James, March 21, 1949. The document is an appointment, “…Whereas Our Good Friend the President of the United States of America has by a Commission…appointed Mr. Frederick C. Johnson to be Consul at Cardiff….” George’s signature is light but legible.
