Description
FD-134 Spirit, Sir Douglas Quintet 1968 Family Dog Concert Poster Signed by Randy California. A first-printing San Francisco concert poster for Spirit, Sir Douglas Quintet + 2 and Notes from the Underground at the Avalon Ballroom on Friday thru Sunday, August 23-25, 1968. Known as FD-134 in the Family Dog numbered series, this poster was hand-signed in pencil by Spirit's leader, guitarist and vocalist, the late Randy California (a nickname given to him by Jimi Hendrix). It was designed by Stanley Mouse and Arnold Genthe. Los Angeles-based Spirit was cruising along on the strength of its Lou Adler-produced debut album, Spirit, which had peaked at #31 on Billboard's album chart and was still hanging around the top 50 the week of these shows. That album contained "Taurus," which would garner attention 50 years later when the Spirit camp accused Led Zeppelin of pinching a segment of the song for "Stairway to Heaven." It took years, but the courts finally found in favor of Zeppelin. Measures 13" x 22" and grades to Near Mint condition. The corners have the softest & smallest bumps imaginable.
