Very good overall. - Lugt L.786, from an unidentified collection Dr AR, presumably German. - Presumably from the Dutch School of the 1st half of the 17th century, this harmonious landscape scene. Based on the new understanding of Dutch artists as well as the taste of the bourgeoisie as new customers, the paintings of the so-called Dutch School are to be understood as depictions and descriptions of the visible world, with their own sense and particularly sharpened eye for the undramatic and everyday. The landscape scene, captivating in its simplicity, shows us a gently meandering riverbank embedded in a wooded landscape. The left side of the picture is lined with a small waterfall. The "Imitatio Naturae" - the faithful imitation of nature - became one of the highest principles of landscape painting and can be seen in our work, for example, in the richly detailed trees. In terms of drawing, the skilful and different types of hatching round off the overall very well-balanced impression of nature.Red chalk drawing, partially heightened in white, on laid paper. On the verso with collector's stamp (Lugt 786). Spot-mounted to underlying mat and free-standing in mat, framed under glass. - Margins slightly irregularly cut.
