Schwenke Auctioneers

Schwenke Auctioneers is a well-regarded auction company founded by acknowledged antique expert Thomas Schwenke and located in historic Woodbury, Connecticut - nationally known as The Antiques Capital of Connecticut. Woodbury is convenient to all major east coast cities, is home to several fine antique shops, and boasts several first class restaurants, inns and spas, all nestled in the scenic area known as the Litchfield Hills.
Since inception in May of 2009, Schwenke Auctioneers has held over ninety major catalog auctions and sold many thousands of individual auction lots for a total gross selling price of several million dollars. We are considered a regional auction house, and we endeavor to provide the ultimate in personalized auction services for both buyers and sellers, with primary effort being given to maximizing property values for our consignors through careful research, aggressive marketing and rigorous administrative practices. Our sales results for important items are consistently on a par with major international auction houses due to global market acceptance of our thoughtfully developed and professionally maintained internet auction platform, our aggressive research practices, a conservative approach to estimating, and rigorously managed administrative practices.
Our auctions are broadcast on the internet and we offer in-house absentee and phone bidding. We typically have auctions every two/three months. Our auctions include American, English, French, Asian, Mid-Century Modern and contemporary decorative arts, as well as couture items, jewelry, silver, fine arts (paintings, prints, sculpture and bronzes) and oriental carpets. Most of our property sells in a range from $1000 to $25,000, but top lots have exceeded $375,000. We have the resources to purchase individual items and estates and collections if and as required to achieve a seller's objectives.
We have free appraisal and auction evaluation days every Friday at our gallery from 11am to 3pm. An appointment is suggested but not mandatory. Our compensation for services is a commission at rates competitive with other regional auction houses, and our commissions are all inclusive in that we do not charge for photography or insurance.
Founder, owner and principal auctioneer Thomas Schwenke has over 50 years of "hands-on" experience in all aspects of buying, selling and appraising antiques and fine and decorative arts. He is a nationally recognized expert and an acknowledged authority in American furniture and has exhibited in all of the country's leading antique shows. Recently he has successfully completed the examination for Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice as specified by the United States Government.
