On Friday the 11th of March 2011, television stations from around the world, broadcast the abhorrent images of a natural disaster of such devastation that to this day, for many of us it remains an unthinkable and utterly unimaginable sequence of events. Like everyone who was transfixed by what they were seeing, at Hublot our immediate thoughts went to our friends and colleagues in Japan. As the magnitude of the catastrophe escalated from one natural disaster to another, a silence fell upon the normally vibrant atmosphere of the Hublot factory as people called home, talked to their husbands, wives, children and loved ones and reminded each other, how lucky they were. From the top right corner office of the Hublot factory, CEO Jean Claude Biver wasted little time in finding out what he could do to help. Within hours, Hublot reached out to the extended Hublot family of fans, clients, collectors and supporters the world over and launched an online charity appeal raising money for the Japanese Red Cross. In the days and weeks that followed Hublot continued to offer its support to the families and in particular the children affected by the devastation by sending ten thousand sets of Caran d?Ache colouring pencils to the Kids Earth Fund in Japan. A gesture that has since contributed to the healing process for those infants traumatized by the tsunami! At the opening of the Hublot Boutique in Ginza earlier this year, Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat, Maradona and other members of the extended Hublot family donated numerous items to a charity auction with all proceeds going to the Kids Earth Fund.
