Most unpleasant experience I have had with an auction. I asked for images of bases of several items and never received them. I was the high bidder on several items, but my bids were not accepted on the choicest items I bid on. When I called the auction house immediately, I was told it was not uncommon for the auctioneer to sell items to someone in house or a friend. When I complained, I was told I could have the items for a price that was within my high bids, but then was told the "boss" would not sell them to me, but would offer them in the next auction. All pieces that did not show their bases were modern fakes or late 20th century, but were mixed within authentic pieces, which were sold in house. I contacted Liveauctioneers, but was told they could not hold the auction house to any standards or force a sale. I will never even look at any items being offered by Stevens Art and Antiques again. I feel this is a very unscrupulous and unethical auction house and I would like others to know how they operate.

The great downfall of online auctions remains shipping. Auction houses who don't offer to handle it in-house (like this one) make for a seriously unpleasant dealing because of the need to locate outside shippers (typically in a foreign country) who have a tendency to regard buyers as one-off customers to be price-gouged. On several occasions I have been charged $200-$300 for shipment of small non-fragile items by independent shippers. The houses have to learn that customer service includes (1) packaging items themselves (or having a deal with one trusted entity who will handle it for them), and (2) arranging a reasonably-priced carriage deal (postage) for their buyers.

they took so long to do anything. It took them 2 weeks to process the payment. It took them 3 weeks to ship the item-Dec. 20th I received it. I received it January. Item was damaged from shipping-they received USPS check on Jan 5. I received my check on Feb. 20th.2 and 1/2 months from start to finish, uncalled for. I'm not sure I would do business with them again.

I have not received the Jade Thumb ring as successful bidder. Received email of invoice without ability to respond acceptance. I gave up.

$20.00 shipping + $20.00 packing for very small, light item that cost under $10.00 to ship. Will never buy from them again & certainly will not recommend!

I was quoted a shipping fee of $85.00 for a four inch diameter ceramic bowl. I'm still waiting for charge card information. Not a very good experience.

The cost to ship two roof tiles was $195-outrageously high! Especially considering both roof tiles arrived broken. Based on this recent experience, I will no longer participate in future auctions.
