I have been going to Butterscotch auctions for about 30 years. I have never been disappointed once! Paul Marinucci has always been fair and honest. Not necessarily nice all the time, but a good man.

We purchased a lot of pottery from this auction house. When we received it, the bottom of one of the pieces had some chips. We reached out to the auction house after checking the description to see if we missed it. It was not noted. They responded with "it must have broken in transit". We looked at the photos closer and what I originally thought was photo glare, were in fact, chips. I sent a message back. They respond with a sob story of having to lot and research so many items. We also have an auction house, and if there are chips, we mention it. Nothing like an unhappy client. Then told us that we got a "rare item", not understanding what that has to do with my chipped vase. They also told us to "read the terms, which are vague and placing the blame on the buyer. So, buyer beware.

This was our first but not last buy from the folks at the is house. Good quality merchandise well described and very helpful when asked. Recommended

Great place to buy!

I registered for the last Butterscotch auction on the Butterscotch website several days in advance. For some strange reason on the day of the auction I was unable to access their live auction and was told "Registration pending 'instead of" Registration approved. "I then went to Liveauctioneers, where Butterscotch charges a 5 % higher premium, and bid there; and I was the successful purchaser of two lots. I called Butterscotch after the auction and asked why my registration had not been approved. They told me that I had not paid for my last purchase and that they had BLACKLISTED me. I was blindsided by this. The last item I had purchased from them was a Chippendale drop leaf table. I paid for the table a few days after the auction. The table was described in their catalogue as being in very good condition. I drove two hours one way to pick it up. When I saw the table, I saw that the top was walnut and the base mahogany. Anyone who has a basic knowledge of American furniture would know that this does not make sense, and that the top had been replaced. I had paid $1, 000 for the table and with the replaced top it was worth $100. I pointed the problem out to Ryan, the young man working in the office. I said I did not feel I should have to take the table because it was described very incorrectly in the catalogue. He called the owner and he agreed to rescind the sale. I received a refund in the mail two weeks later. I was stunned to learn that they have blacklisted me for this. On the phone I tried to explain to Ryan that I had paid promptly for the previous purchase and what had happened. He said he had no time to listen to me, that he was cancelling my current purchases and he hung up on me. I was stunned. I still cannot believe that this is the way they would treat a client of many years who had always paid promptly.

I read in another review that they claim they are not experts. But, isn't that their job? To be knowledgable about what they sell and how they describe it? I purchased a ring (fortunately ony $165) which they described as 14K white gold. Received the ring and it is silver. I would not have paid $165 for a silver ring. Obviously, I get no response when I send messages. Ugh. Will not do business with them again.

Description is not accurate. Both of the two KPM plates have small professional repair to the rim which they did not mention in the description. One reticulated plate they described as "Meissen" which is not Meissen but Carl Thieme, and this is the only plate which they did not have picture of the bottom with mark in the listing. I am not sure if they did it by mistake or on purpose. I sent them message with pictures I took to show their mistakes. Below is the only message they sent to me. "I am in receipt of your e-mails. I am truly sorry you are not happy with your purchase. We do not except refunds. Please note the terms and conditions of your auction that you agreed to when you signed up for it. You can find them on our own site or the site you signed up with." After that, they just ignore my messages. Unprofessional, maybe not honest. Poor customer service.
