Excellent customer service
I had a concern about payment and shipping. All my questions were quickly answered with care and knowledge. Great effort was made to be certain I was well taken care of. I would not hesitate to take part in another auction with Freeman's.

Shipping can be a problem because it's not in-house.
Yes, they are extremely nice people, but they probably get inundated with questions about specific lots. So they were quite slow in answering my question. And shipping is not in-house, so that becomes a bit of a production. The truth is, all of this is standard with auction houses trying to do too much with too little staff. But again, awfully nice people.

Too many hidden & extra fees.
Too many hidden & extra fees. A fee of $120 for bidding online? It's Live Auctioneers. What did you expect? Carrier pigeon? That's just wrong! More than $80 extra for using a charge card? Again, wrong. Probably won't bid at Freeman's again.

Not accommodating for pick up
High premium but low service level. Freeman’s charges 31 percent on internet platforms which is higher than most other auction houses in their category. But they will not use their profits to open the Saturday after the auction. They would not allow pick up. We had to take a day from work. When we mentioned this they did not reply. Not customer friendly.

Easy pickup

Auction & Shipping went great
Auction went very smooth, shipping was outsourced, used Freeman’s recommendation, The Packaging Store. My piece was a single ledger sheet, oversized and they did a wonderful job protecting it and getting it shipped safely and securely to me. They offered various shipping options which was nice too. Overall, excellent experience would buy from Freeman’s again and ship with The Packaging Store. Thanks!

Released sculpture to wrong shipper and part of the sculpture is now permanently missing
After impermissibly releasing a sculpture with two components to the incorrect shipper, the sculpture eventually arrived to my residence with a component missing. Rather than try to assist, they have blamed me for losing the component. Blaming the bidder versus accepting responsibility is not a winning business strategy. I would avoid this auction house at all costs.

Excellent Transaction & Customer Servie
The item was exactly as described and the photographs correctly showed everything about the item. Don't worry about shipping. I contacted Freeman's prior to bidding on this item to figure out how I would get it shipped and how much that would cost should I win. They put me in touch with 2 capable shippers that they deal with. I contacted both. Both shippers were helpful but there was a clear choice and I was happy with my choice of shippers and even happier when this treasure arrive in tact. I'm very happy I found this item at auction and was the winning bidder.

Item misdescribed purposely
I purchased a very expensive Pauta Saila Inuit Bear Sculpture for over $10, 000 USD when I received it even though described as 10” in height the item was below 9” in height. Purposefully misrepresented by auction house. The auction house would not take payment by credit card because it was my first purchase from them so I they made me go through PayPal costing me an additional $400 on fees and exchange of funds from Canadian dollars to Canadian dollars. Lastly they insisted on charging me taxes even though item being shipped out of country said it was law but shortly there after I did the same with another auction house in Pennsylvania and was charged no tax because shipping to Canada. I will not be dealing with Freeman’s Auction House ever again how do you buy from them is they misdescribe what they are selling you.

Regarding the payment and tax issues: We do not have a policy that prohibits first time buyers from using credit cards, though our fraud protection will sometimes filter international cards. You were sent the PayPal credit card link, which should not have charged you any additional fees as those are absorbed by Freeman's automatically. The sales tax issue is a complex one, but without delving into the intricacies in this forum, sales tax was legally required, and you were advised of this in item 15 of our terms and conditions.
