Old Kinderhook seems to be a great auction house. I appreciate their responsiveness to any questions I had. Unfortunately, I used Live Auctioneers shipping services. Not only did it take a month for it to ship, and not only was it very poorly packed, but the 17th/18th c. painting on wood arrived cracked in two pieces down the middle with significant paint loss, all due to the shoddy shipping. I reported it to LiveAuctioneers immediately upon receiving the item and now after 10 days I still have no word about my claim and am still left with an irreparably damaged painting. Satisfied with Kinderhook, but deeply disappointed with LiveAuctioneers shipping and disappointed this 300-year-old painting has been so severely damaged.

Item was in excellent condition but it was completely full of trash which made it much heavier & made the shipping a lot more. Not happy about that at all.

I purchased what appeared to be a pristine portrait painting c. 1840. The one image showing a defect was notable but insignificant. However there were no images of a repaired hole or another image that should have shown the six inch repaired tear. Similarly the description noted that the canvas had been relined but said nothing about being glued to an unknown semisolid backing. Frankly, I would never consider buying a painting from this auction house ever again.

Old Kinderhook is simply one of the best! I have dealt with many over the years and I am in fact retired from the auction industry, so I know what I am talking about. Bid with confidence!

There are always great things turning up at auctions in the Hudson Valley from old estates in the region. I won this painting at a good price and have already restored it. But getting it home was a challenge. The local UPS store gave me an estimate, then tripled it after I won the auction. I turned to Purple Comet as recommended by the auctioneer. Thanks to the Old Kinderhook for their patience in the process.

This was a flawless transaction. Great images, reasonable starting price, good updates for further bidding, convenient shipping services, and prompt and easy conclusion. More auction houses ought to be as good as Old Kinderhook!

Old Kinderhook sells Chinese porcelain which they claim are antiques. An antique is something that is 100 years old or older. I believe the "antiques" they are selling were made in this century. I believe they know this and sell them anyhow.
