Geodes & Minerals

The word geode means earth-like in Greek and describes a rounded rock with hollow space in its center. Although a geode looks like an ordinary plain rock from the outside, it actually contains a unique mineral in its interior. When the geode is cracked open, beautiful shimmering crystals are revealed, making them highly sought-after collectibles. Rare geodes are considered those filled with beautiful blue gem silica, pink rhodochrosite, spectacular opal or other rare materials. Most geodes are formed in volcanic rock, while others in sedimentary rock. The sediments can be rocks, such as limestone, dolomites, shale, minerals or organic materials like dead trees. Geodes range in colors and sizes, from under one centimeter to several meters in length. Small geodes are used in jewelry making, while large ones have been incorporated into furnishings. Collectors with a skilled eye can spot these beauties, investing great amounts for a
