Neoclassical Antiques

The term Neoclassical refers to the style that emerged in the late 18th century and lasted until the mid-19th century. The style appeared mainly in France, England, and America during the French and the American Revolution. As a response to the decoration used during the Rococo and Baroque periods, the Neoclassical style emphasized harmony. Neoclassical works took their cues from the styles of ancient Greece and Rome. Symmetrical, straight lines and simple forms, scrolled arms, column table legs, tapered and fluted chairs are characteristics of the Neoclassical style.
