English & Continental Furniture & Decorations

The October 25 sale will offer furniture and decorations from the 17th through early 19th centuries, as well as Continental, English and Chinese export porcelain, Georgian silver, sculpture, clocks, chandeliers, sconces, tapestries and rugs. Highlighting the FURNITURE are a Louis XVI gilt-bronze mounted ebonized secretaire a abattant by Jacques Birckle, Maitre 1764, and a George II walnut chest on chest. BRONZES feature a gilt-bronze figure of Mercury after Giambologna and a gilt-bronze figure of Christ Carrying the Cross after Alessandro Algardi The DECORATIONS include a pair of German Baroque painted wood figures of angels, mid 18th century, a pair of Regency gilt-wood convex mirrors, a Neoclassical gilt-bronze and cut glass chandelier, Chinese Export porcelain, and a collection of English enamel snuff boxes. Also noteworthy are a 17th century Aubusson tapestry and a selection of RUGS, including fine Agra and Oushak examples. The OLD MASTER PAINTINGS section of the auction offers a rich variety of still lifes, portraits, religious paintings, and scenes of everyday life. Featured is a rare Fête Champêtre by François-Louis-Joseph Watteau (French, 1759-1823), known as Watteau de Lille. Also in the sale is a rare pair of doors to an altarpiece representing the Crucifixion with saints by the 16th century Dutch master known as the Master of the Utrecht Adoration. Other works include a group of Dutch and Flemish still lifes from the circles of Cornelis de Heem, Rachel Ruysch, and Abraham Brueghel; two fine Venetian views from the school of Francesco Guardi; a landscape by Bartolommeo Torregiani; and a selection of Old Master drawings.
