October 7 Gallery Auction
Chinese treasures bring beauty, culture and history to Michaan's in October: unusual Famille Rose and Famille Verte porcelains, Buddhist wood carvings, collectible snuff bottles and much more. A deep blue silk embroidered dragon robe is estimated at $3,000-$4,000. The "Hundred Antiques" embellished panel of prized zitan wood is inlaid with carved images of China's most valued collectible art objects ($12,000-$16,000). October's splendid jewelry includes a sleek Patek Philippe ($5,000-$7,000) and an 18k gold minute repeater pocket watch ($1,800-$2,500), rich red coral, lustrous cultured pearls, and a fine vintage suite of opals set in yellow gold. Big, colorless estate diamonds sparkle three in a row, set in a platinum ring ($9,000-$12,000). Visionary stained glass by Judith Schaechter, Picasso etchings and ceramics, and fine landscape paintings such as James Fairman's 19th century view of Jaffa and Maynard Dixon's "November Evening" ($20,000-$30,000) are offered in October. The gallery gleams with estate sterling pieces and flatware sets, and a variety of Tiffany Studios glass designs. The selection of fine old clocks -- various sizes, styles and periods -- is especially good this month. Antique furniture from around the world includes a Queen Anne walnut inlaid escritoire ($3,000-$5,000) and a rare c. 1900 Stickley tabouret table in the lovely shape of a poppy ($10,000-$15,000).
