The Collection of Joan and Milton Baxt

Joan Valentine Baxt (1931-2016) and Milton Baxt (1916-2001) of Bethesda, Maryland and Hollywood, Florida were avid collectors, as well as passionate supporters of the arts. After purchasing their first two pieces of contemporary glass from Habatat Galleries in January of 1984, their love affair with glass began. Joan Baxt went on to become a founding member and the first president of the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass (AACG). Together, they built a large collection, supporting established and emerging artists from around the world. They were known for the warm relationships they cultivated with the artists, hosting many and visiting others. Works from their collection have been donated to Corning Museum of Glass, Toledo Museum of Art, NSU Art Museum (part of Nova Southeastern University), Lowe Art Museum, Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Boca Raton Museum of Art, and others. In addition to their donations to public institutions, they also gave generously to friends, family, and charities, especially those that focused on issues of child hunger.
