Cowan's is pleased to present The Magnificent Match Safe Collection of David and Holiday Winfield of St. Louis, MO. This sale will feature a portion of their eclectic collection of match safes, with the remainder to be sold in June 2018. The wide-ranging collection includes sterling silver, silverplated, gold and gold quartz match safes, and features rare examples of each. Notable lots include a three-piece set by Marcus & Co. set with emeralds from the Muzo Mine in Colombia (Lot 95), a beautiful gold quartz match safe once owned by King Leopold II (Lot 118), and a rare silver match safe with matching cane (Lot 96). Along with these stand-outs are mistress match safes, advertising and figural match safes, and pieces by makers such as Gorham, Deakin & Francis, and Walker & Hall.
