Sollo Rago Modern Auction

On the weekend of April 21 and 22, John Sollo, David Rago and Meredith Hilferty will feature three extraordinary collections in a sale of approximately 900 lots of fine Modern decorative art, fine art, and furnishings. The property of Nancy Chase is the first single-owner collection of Tommi Parzinger furnishings to come to auction. The William Goldman collection is notable not only for its excellence but also its range of Paul Evans designs. Sollo Rago's single owner collection of Harry Bertoia's work comprises three sounding sculptures "all gongs" of various forms, created as part of a 1976 exhibit of monumental sounding sculptures that inaugurated the Grieg Hall in Bergen, Norway. The work of George Nakashima is a cornerstone for Sollo Rago. Included in our offerings are two magnificent coffee tables, one with an exceptional buckeye burl top and the other with a sinuous English oak burl slab top. Exceptional and rare works by Wharton Esherick, Frederick Harer, Phillip Lloyd Powell, Morgan Colt, and David Powell will also be highlighted. Contemporary studio furniture and decorative arts are represented through works by Judy Kensley McKie, Wendell Castle, and Ed Zucca, to name just a few. Modern and Contemporary Art will be featured throughout the sale. Sollo Rago is excited to be offering the works of important American artist Rex Ashlock for the first time at auction. Also on sale are works by Sol LeWitt; Andy Warhol; Richard Hambleton; Weegee; Michael (Corinne) West; Ralph Rosenborg; Josef Albers; Roy Lichtenstein; Ellsworth Kelly; Richard Estes; and Larry Zox. Ceramics works by Otto and Gertrude Natzler, Beatrice Wood, Hui Ka Kwong, Axel Salto, Richard Notkin, Ken Price, David Gilhooly, and Betty Woodman will also be offered. Rounding out the sale is a fine selection of European design including works by Josef Hoffmann, Piero Fornasetti, Gio Ponti, and Philippe Starck.
