Estate of Hugh Hardy & Others 3/3/19

Showplace Antique + Design Center Live Estate Auction Estate of Architect Hugh Hardy & Others Sunday, March 3, 12pm EST Auctions at Showplace is excited to present items from the Estate of Architect Hugh Hardy (American, 1932-2017), one of New York City's most influential builders whose legacy can be seen in many of our most cherished cultural institutions. Hardy was entrusted with many high-profile restorations and renovations to iconic venues such as Radio City Music Hall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New Victory Theatre and the New Amsterdam Theatre and was also the architect who built the Claire Tow Theatre atop Eero Saarinen's Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center. As a collector, Hardy's refined and varied taste ranged from fine art photographs to oil paintings, American furniture to English silver, and of course mid-century modern design. Highlights include a John Gadsby Chapman (American, 1808-1890) panoramic oil on canvas, "Harvest on the Roman Compagna," a Telemacho Signorini (Italian, 1835-1901) Tuscan landscape, and a collection of contemporary photographs by Evelyn Hofer. This sale is a rare opportunity to acquire items from the collection of this dynamic, contemporary figure.
