VINTAGE/HISTORIC CLOTHING - FROM MUSEUMS

Rare historic and vintage clothing from museum & institutional collections will be auctioned at Augusta Auctions, 50th specialty auction event. Lovers of historic textiles and vintage clothing have been planning their 2019 pilgrimage to the Sturbridge, Massachusetts auction venue since last year's sales ended. Collections offered at the Tuesday & Wednesday sales include treasures representing four centuries of fashion history. These treasures originated from the closets and backrooms of many prestigious institutions. Consignor institutions include Museum of the City of New York, the Goldstein Museum, The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Strong Museum, Fairfield Historical Society, Ohio State University, the American Textile History Museum and more than two dozen other institutions, estates and private collections. Proceeds from this sale help to provide financial support earmarked for the preservation and maintenance of museums permanent collections. The catalogued lots are open for preview at NOON on Tuesday May 14th with the sale starting at 2PM. Many of the clothing lots in Tuesday's 330-lot catalog sale have been grouped into large lots geared to collectors, vintage store owners and lovers of rare and beautiful vintage clothing. Quilts & historic textiles will be sold on May 15 during Session 2 of this sale. A catalog for that sale will also be posted on Live Auctioneers. Those unable to attend in person can bid online through the Live Auctioneers bidding system.
