This vibrant and remarkable New England born woman
epitomized the term “self-made.” Although orphaned at a young age, in
every way she sought to improve herself through dedication, education
and hard work. As a teenager she developed a passion for high couture
and design, and often created wardrobe pieces such as her “famous”
shoes made from multi-colored ribbons and cardboard. She attended
college at night after working a full-time job, snow skied at a time when
lifts were non-existent, and saved money to take golf lessons at the
local country club.
Upon marrying the golf pro, they traveled the country while he
played the PGA golf circuit with colleagues such as Sam Snead. During
the war and post-war years her husband flew large commercial aircraft
while she commuted from the east coast to world-famous Hollywood
where she enjoyed her career as a sought-after model in the fashion
world and managed her young daughter’s career in major motion
pictures.
Later she and her husband moved to glamorous Miami, FL where
she continued to grow her family as well as pursue her love for design
and collecting antiques. During the 60s, 70s and 80s she had a thriving
business as an interior designer while owning and operating her own
antique store. A professional shopper with an incredible eye for detail
and color, she never stepped out without looking like a “million bucks”
until the day she was called Home. The items in this auction span the
many decades of her life.
