African Art from Private Collections & Estate
Witherell's is pleased to present our June auction, African Artworks from Private Collections and from the Estate of Jean-Pierre Hallet.
This sale includes a selection of over two hundred pieces of unique and traditional artwork, textiles, religious and cultural artifacts from across Africa acquired from a number of different private collections, most notably the Estate of Jean-Pierre Hallet. Hallet (1927-2004) was a renowned Belgian explorer, ethnologist, sociologist, and humanitarian, perhaps best known for his study of the Efe pygmies of the Ituri Rainforest and for establishing the Pygmy Fund in 1974 to help preserve their life, environment, and culture. Over the course of his personal and professional life, Hallet amassed an astounding collection of African art and artifacts -- at one point owning one of the largest collections of African art in the world.
This auction features an incredible range of objects, primarily from sub-Saharan Africa (although there a number of North African pieces), including religious, ritual, and military items as well as decorative and utilitarian pieces. We invite you to view this impressive collection on our website as well as on LiveAuctioneers where we will be hosting this sale.
This auction has a 24% Buyer's Premium for non-credit card transactions through LiveAuctioneers.com.
