Contemporary Glass

As part of the larger Contemporary Glass auction, Rago is proud to present a stand-alone segment of works by American glass artist Dan Dailey, direct from the artist's personal archives. Many of the works on offer were owned for years by the artist's mother, Barbara Tarleton. This 29-lot segment features lighting, drawings and works in glass from every stage of the artist's career. Highlights from Dan Dailey: From the Barbara Tarleton Collection include: a pair of Bird sconces and a Bird in Flight chandelier, both produced by Dailey for Waterford Crystal; a nearly 6" tall female figure floor lamp, one of only six from a limited series; a pair of Owl form sconces; a Vitrolite head sculpture titled Puzzlement; a massive work from Dailey's Animal Vases series, with preparatory drawing, titled Bear; and a massive work from his Abstract Heads series, also with preparatory drawing, titled Bad. Additional highlights from the Contemporary Glass auction include: a massive Petroglyph vessel by William Morris; a violet glass vessel with gentian blue flowers from Dale Chihuly's "Venetians" series with gentian blue flowers; an exceptional "Dinosaur" by Lino Tagliapietra; a massive vessel by Stephen Rolfe Powell from the "Teasers" series; a fine and large spinning sculpture by Jon Kuhn titled Impressive Jewel; and a "Yellow and Blue Trio" by Dante Marioni. Suzanne Perrault, Partner + Co-Director, Design Dept: "There is a spectacular offering of contemporary glass in this sale, which warrants its own catalog thanks partly to a fine collection of works by Dan Dailey from his family's private archives. Twenty-nine of his pieces in glass, bronze, and paper will open the Contemporary Glass session, starting with a spectacular Female Figurative Floor Lamp. Following will be a strong group of work by blue-chip makers such as Lino Tagliapietra and Dale Chihuly, supported by an international cast. This is one of the best glass sales we've had to date."
