December 6 | Winter Fine Sale

Spectacular diamond jewelry, museum quality modern art and exceptional Art Deco furnishings will be sold at Michaan's Winter Fine Sale featuring property from the Sylvia Blumenfeld Trust. Highlights include the platinum ring centering a pear-cut fine diamond of nearly 8 carats (estimated at $80,000-$120,000). A large untitled abstract acrylic painting ($150,000-$200,000) by Sam Francis (1923-1994) tops the list of fine artworks by influential modernists from California and beyond. Sylvia Blumenfeld (1921-2018) was a talented collector whose education and world travels shaped her interests and tastes. Her estate includes jewels by designers such as Van Cleef & Arpels and Buccellati, as well as luxury timepieces. Beautiful furniture and decorations from the Blumenfeld Trust include Baltic Neoclassical pieces from the early 19th century. Fine art includes works by the Bay Area Figurative Movement painters Nathan Oliveira, Elmer Bischoff and James Weeks. In this sale Michaan's also offers a superb collection of art and Art Deco furniture and decorations from a San Francisco apartment designed by Steven Volpe and featured in Architectural Digest, August 2017. A second, complementary Art Deco collection includes the designs of Adnet, Ramsay, Coulon and Maison Baguès. In addition to the Sylvia Blumenfeld Trust property, which includes watercolors by Diego Rivera and Toulouse-Lautrec, this sale offers fine Russian paintings from the turn of the 20th century and etchings by Durer. A very special highlight is "PREM" by Robert Indiana. This large steel sculpture is a variation on the theme of Indiana's iconic "LOVE," with the word for "love" spelled in Hindi; estimated at $250,000-$300,000.
