The Partridge Fine Arts Research Library

The majority to be sold without reserve Partridge was established at the beginning of the 20th century with premises in London and later in New York. In 1929, the business was incorporated as 'Frank Partridge and Sons Limited' and soon had a host of well-known clients, among them the late Queen Mary, as well as major museums in the United States and Great Britain including the Metropolitan Museum, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Burrell Collection, and the British Royal Collection, giving the firm the rightful reputation as the world's leading dealership. The Partridge Fine Arts Research Library is extensive and broad-based containing numerous first editions and specially bound books, many with dedications, covering all the fields in which the company dealt. These were principally English and French furniture, silver, porcelain, paintings, sculpture, and Chinese works of art. While the major strength is in antique furniture and applied arts, there is a wealth of volumes on other subjects as well as a remarkable collection of annotated sales catalogues of house and collectors? sales going back over a century, including many of the world?s important collections. Many of the books are handsomely bound in full or half morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe or Zaehnsdorf, and most contain a Partridge reference library bookplate
