Fine Art & Antiques Session I

Simpson Galleries is pleased to present this auction of Fine Art & Antiques on February 15th and 16th. The auction is sure to be one of our best this year with selections of popular artworks, important maps, desirable decorative art, and antiques. The auction features a number of highlighted lots and collections. Leading the offering is a collection of Leroy Neiman artworks and related ephemera from the Estate of Eva Linda Moreno; Neiman's studio assistant and friend for decades. Significant private and corporate collections are in the auction, including important Texas/World maps, documents, and Audubon Havell prints. Of note are rare examples of De Cordova's Map of the State of Texas of 1856 and an important Republic of Texas Map from 1839. From private collections, the auction has wonderful works by artists such as Lee N. Smith, Billy Hassell, Frank Reaugh, Porfirio Salinas, Richard MacDonald, Tsing-Fang Chen, Charles Schorre, and Arman. A newly discovered painting by Julius Stockfleth portrays the Port of Galveston in 1907 - the bustling city as it recovers from the Great Storm of 1900. The painting comes to auction as a donation to a Hawaiian charity that supports underprivileged children with all proceeds benefiting their cause. A painting by the fourth man to walk on the moon, Alan Bean, is another highlight that has never before come to auction sale. Having been in the related family and museum collections for decades, this painting is sure to attract much interest from space memorabilia and art collectors.
