Fine Asian & European works of art

This 723-lot sale features both Asian and European works of art, as well as a small selection of Islamic arts. The morning session is fully dedicated to Asian arts and features a varied selection of attractive lots. Highlights here are the two wooden screens with porcelain plaques, the large number of 'Chinese taste' vases, a collection of refined objects for the scholar's table and a few impressive, very large martaban jars. Fine Chinese bronzes, carvings and paintings are the prelude to the Japanese collection, which ends the morning session. The sale resumes at 2pm with the collection of Chinese export wares. A 'Dames au parasol' plate after Cornelis Pronk and a large famille rose Mandarin charger do stand out. The blue and white wares are also very well represented. A beautiful Kangxi dish with a shepherd with goats is most attractive! The European section of the sale starts with ceramics. Fine Dutch Delftware and Italian maiolica make up the majority here. The European porcelain production is presented by impressive Sèvres vases and fine gilt Empire plates from the Paris workshops. The sculptures section covers a wide range, from fine German ivory to French bronzes and monumental contemporary works. From there, it's only a small step to the paintings section. In the old masters section, notable works are the 'Adoration of the Magi' and the still life with fish by Alexander Adriaenssens. Modern masters such as Picasso, Dali, Hartung, Van Dongen, Appel and Combas as well as important Belgian artists such as Ensor, Delvaux, Léon and Gustave Desmedt, Montigny and De Saedeleer are some of the highlights of the paintings and prints collection. Interesting furniture and decorative items are also available in large numbers, with numerous fine pieces for the connoisseur.
