TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SALE The conditions set forth below constitute the terms and conditions on which all property is offered for sale. Bidding at auction, the buyer agrees to be bound by these terms. A 15% buyer's premium will be added to the hammer price of each lot. Payment must be made within five (5) days of point of sale, unless prior arrangements have been made with the auction house. Successful Bidders will be notified electronically within 36 hours of date of auction. Payments accepted are cash, Cashier's check, Traveler's check, Paypal, Personal or Business check. The auction house reserves the right to hold property until checks clear. The purchaser is legally responsible for payment. Failure to complete payment within the time allocated may result in legal proceedings and will result in non-issuance of a bidding number in the future. If a response has not been received within 7 days of invoice, a Non-Paying Bidder (NPB) warning will be placed until payment has been made. A $20.00 fee will be added for returned checks. If a check fails to clear after the second deposit, the purchaser will be held responsible for any and all fees incurred during the collection process. All auction sales & bidding are recorded. All purchases are subject to the New York State Sales Tax of 8 1/4% unless the purchaser possesses a Tax Exemption Number, an out of state tax number, or is shipping out of New York State. Request NYS form ST-120 must be completed and kept on file. All items are sold to the highest bidder as acknowledged by the auctioneer. The auctioneer has the right to reject any bid; to advance the bidding at his discretion; and, in the event of a dispute between two bidders, determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the lot in dispute. Should there be any dispute after sale, the record of final sale shall be conclusive. Some items offered may be subject to reserve, which is the confidential minimum price below which such lot will not be sold. We may implement such reserves by bidding on behalf of the Consignor. All goods are sold "AS IS" and all sales are final. Perspective buyers should contact the auction house for a detailed condition report. It is the responsibility of prospective bidders to examine lots and decide their level of interest. Neither the auctioneer, nor the consignor, is responsible for the accuracy of any printed or verbal descriptions. All weights and measurements are approximate. The color/tone of images may not be true to the item. Please contact the auction house for condition reports if there is any question. The auctioneer has the right to withdraw any lot before or at the sale. Packaging and handling of purchased lots is at the risk and expense of the purchaser. As a service to the purchaser, Merchant’s Daughter, LLC will arrange in-house packing, shipping and insurance, unless otherwise noted in the lot description. All expenses incurred must be paid for by the purchaser. Please be aware that items offered can be costly to pack and ship. It is possible that the price of packing and shipping may exceed the purchase price. Returns will NOT be accepted as a result of packing/shipping costs. We will not be held responsible for choosing a shipper in the event of any act and/or omissions in packing. We do not assume responsibility for damages. Regardless of shipping method, auction house must have received cleared funds to release property. Shipping may take up to four weeks after payment is received. Returns will be accepted, if it is determined the auctioneers have erred in their catalogue description. However, if the auctioneer should make verbal or online additions, corrections or modifications to the catalogue at the point of sale, this disclosure formally amends the original printed or online catalogue description. Returns must be accompanied by a written statement from a mutually agreed upon arms length third party confirming the discrepancy. Arrangements for returns must be made with the auctioneers within fourteen (14) days of purchase. Under no circumstance will this time period be extended unless arrangements have been made within the two (2) week period. These terms do not apply to any items identified in the catalogue as "In the Manner of, Style of, Circle of, After, or Attributed to". Auctioneers do not warranty any verbal accounts of integrity or condition offered for telephone/absentee clients.

Hanna Eshel is an internationally recognized artist whose work has evolved over many years and a wide variety of media. Oil, burlap, paper, marble and bronze have been some of the favored materials during her long and prolific life.

A fifth generation Israeli born in Jerusalem in 1926, Eshel first studied at the Bezalel School of Art. She also served as Lieutenant of Cartography in the Israeli Air Force during the 1948 War of Independence. Eshel moved to Paris in 1952, completing advanced studies in painting and fresco at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, where she was awarded the first prize in the Concours de France. It was during her twenty-year period in France that she created the majority of her oil paintings, paper collages and burlap collage/paintings.

As Eshel’s art grew more and more three-dimensional (many of her burlap collage paintings contain clefts, fissures and holes, some of which are actually double-sided works) she began to experiment with other sculpting media. Her search for a material with soul is what brought her to Carrara, Italy. A proposed two-month sojourn turned into six years - a time during which she created hundreds of original marble sculptures. Her 1996 autobiography “Michelangelo and Me: Six Years in My Carrara Haven” tells the story of her love of marble and how she learned to work with the material as one of a family of sculptors at Atelier Nicoli. In the late seventies the world art mecca moved to New York, and so did Eshel along with hundreds of paintings and 20,000 pounds of marble sculpture. As she embarked on a new life, her art evolved yet again. Photo painting, which allowed her to draw on her talents as photographer, world traveler and connoisseur of art history, became the preferred medium, and Eshel created many pieces including her coveted “Save the Trees” series.

Hanna Eshel’s art has been exhibited in several Salons in Paris and some of her sculptures are currently on permanent display in Israel. The majority of her work is on view in a garden-like setting in her space in lower Manhattan, where she holds an open loft session the first Sunday of every month.
