California & American Fine Art Sale, Oct. 21

The October 21th California and American Paintings sale will feature 230 select paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints by important American, Western and California artists from the 19th and early 20th centuries. California Paintings We are thrilled to offer two masterworks by Paul Lauritz that depict Cat Harbor and Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island. The paintings are each estimated at $30,000 / 50,000. A very strong and diverse offering of works by mid-century California Style watercolorists will be featured in the sale as well including a spectacular view of city hall and downtown Los Angeles by Noel Quinn estimated at $4,000 / 6,000. The sale will also include paintings by Paul De Longpre, Frank Cuprien, Maurice Braun, William F. Jackson, William Posey Silva, Arthur Hill Gilbert, James March Phillips, Phil Dike, Millard Sheets and others. Historical Western paintings and sculpture Cyrus Dallin's bronze "Appeal to the Great Spirit", arguably the artist's most important sculpture, leads off our section of historical Western paintings and sculpture. The bronze is estimated at $65,000 / 85,000. The Western sections also include works by Marjorie Reed, Nick Eggenhofer, Olaf Wieghorst, Carl Oscar Borg and Maynard Dixon among others. American Paintings Two important works by Hovsep Pushman will be included in the sale: a still life titled "Immortality No. 422" is estimated at $50,000 / 70,000 and "In the Moonlight No. 747", figures lighting lanterns, is estimated at $40,000 / 60,000. Other works by 19th and 20th century American artists include Nicolai Fechin, Johann Berthelsen, Walter Emerson Baum, Birger Sandzen, Julian Rix, George Inness Jr., Charles Courtney Curran, Carl Krafft and Alfred Thompson Bricher.
