This unique 2-day single-owner auction will showcase 846 lots from the 67,000 square foot Main Residence at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, New Jersey, Doris Duke's primary home, as well as selections from her Southeast Asian Art Collection and property from her Park Avenue Manhattan apartment and Beverly Hills, California home. Included in this special auction are objects Doris Duke acquired and lived with, including 17th through 20th century European furniture and decorative objects, silver, paintings and prints, antique carpets, Asian works of art, lighting, draperies, automobiles and magnificent garden statuary. Saturday's auction session is dedicated to 348 lots of Asian Art and Antiquarian Books. A passionate collector of Asian art, Doris Duke acquired Chinese and Japanese porcelains, jades, ivories, paintings and decorative arts from venerable dealers such as C.T. Loo and Yamanaka & Co. as well as numerous Parke-Bernet Gallery auctions throughout the 1940s, 50s and 60s. A rare collecting opportunity, almost 180 lots from Doris Duke's Southeast Asian Art Collection will be offered for bid during Saturday's Asian Session, including 18th & 19th Century furniture, decorative art and Buddhist sculpture from Thailand, Burma and Cambodia. Saturday's auction will conclude with 50 lots of author-signed books, limited editions and antiquarian leather bindings from the Main Residence library.
