Early 20th C. / Arts & Crafts Auction 1/16/10

On Saturday, January 16, the Rago Arts and Auction Center will host an auction dedicated to the finest furnishings and design of the early 1900s. Saturday's sale features nearly 500 lots, including the property of Ned Chapman, Lee and Susan Mohn, The Heckscher Museum of Art, R.W. Apple, Jr. and two private collections. The sale includes a fine selection of European decorative arts, including a private collection of over fifty pieces of Amphora pottery, as well as Lalique glass, Moorcroft pottery and Art Nouveau furniture. Also for sale: work by Clement Massier, Wedgwood, Paul Dachsel, Edward Stellmacher, Riessner & Kessel, Gallé, Mont Joye and more. As always, there is pottery from Saturday Evening Girls, Weller, North Dakota School of Mines, Pisgah Forest, Shearwater, Pewabic, Marblehead, Dedham, Fulper and Roseville. Metalware from the best European and American makers is here, as well as work by Kalo, Roycroft, Yellin, Albert Berry and Liberty & Co. The lighting in the sale features such designers as Dirk Van Erp, Tiffany Studios, Handel, Pairpont, Roycroft and Cleaveland. Furniture offered includes several exceptional Rohlfs items, a Tiffany chair and early and rare Gustav Stickley pieces. In other makers, we have Roycroft, L. & J.G. Stickley; and Limbert. As a whole, the 91 pieces of Arts & Crafts furniture we are offering represents the strongest level of high-quality furnishings we have presented in many sales. The sale also features a few choice items for those with an interest in Western fine and decorative art, woodblock prints, rugs, textiles and stained glass windows.
