American Furn., Folk & Dec Arts Sess. I Day 1

Hindman's September 30-October 1 American Furniture, Folk and Decorative Arts auction in Cincinnati features several prominent Midwest Collections. Leading Day One (lots 1-410) of the sale is the Collection of James Dawson of Manchester, Kentucky (lots 1-188), which features an array of folk art, early American furniture and advertising. The Wes and Shelly Cowan Collection (lots 189-279) features some of the finest examples of painted furniture, stoneware in various glazes and paintings by artists rarely found at public auction. Lots 299-351 are Property of a Prominent Midwest Estate, including fine examples of Queen Anne, Chippendale and Federal furniture acquired from some of New York's most illustrious firms. Additionally, the first day features an exceptional Andrew Clemens portrait sand bottle (lot 292), a rare late 18th/early 19th century carved marble portrait bust of Benjamin Franklin (lot 281), and a pair of portraits attributed to Gilbert Stuart depicting Moses Michael and Rachel Myers Hays (lot 282). Day Two (lots 411-816) of the auction begins with the impressive folk art, painted furniture, stoneware and toy collection from the Estate of Dean Lower of Lanark, Illinois (lots 411-544). The collection is then followed by an assortment of early English and American embroideries and folk art from various collectors. The last featured collection is from the Estate of Paul Thomas Griffith of Dayton, Ohio (lots 609-734) which features Colonial American and English furniture, Dutch Delft and brass candlesticks, portrait and still life paintings, early textiles and Persian rugs. The two-day sale will also include pieced quilts, folk art carvings, advertising, store displays, stoneware, iron tools and implements, and much more.
