The May 4 auction will offer Autographs, Books and Old Master, Modern and Contemporary Prints. Highlighting the autographs is a group of Tennessee Williams autographs from a Southern collection, including a manuscript notebook for his play, Camino Real (lot 3026). From the estate of dance aficionado Thomas Luce Summa is a pair of pink satin ballet shoes signed by ballet legend Dame Margo Fonteyn and dated 1972 (lot 3011). The auction will also offer autographs by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Judah Benjamin, J. Frank Dobie, Gaetano Donizetti, Thomas Edison, Hannibal Hamlin, Thomas Jefferson, John F. Kennedy, Jules Massenet, Douglas McArthur, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Franklin Pierce, Camille Saint-Saens, Alexander H. Stevens, and Giuseppe Verdi, among others. The selection of fine books will include a group of Western Americana; a selection of sporting books on angling, hunting, yachting and others; and a collection of American Colonial almanacs. Modern European prints include Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Divan Japonais (lot 3231); Henri Matisse, Jeune Fille en Robe Fleurie au Col D’Organdi (lot 3177); several color lithographs by Marc Chagall, including Romeo and Juliet, 1964 (lot 3114) and Paris Sun, 1977 (lot 3115). American prints feature Winslow Homer, Eight Bells (lot 3119); Mary Cassatt, Margot Wearing a Large Bonnet, Seated in an Armchair (lot 3109); James A.M. Whistler, Old Battersea Bridge (lot 3241); and Paul Cadmus, Two Boys on a Beach, No. 2 (lot 3103). Contemporary prints are highlighted by Jean Dubuffet, Faits Memorables II (lot 3132); Roy Lichtenstein, Modern Head #1 (lot 3170); and Christo, Yellow Store Front Project (lot 3117).
