--- The catalog for 19th Century to Contemporary Photography contains unique and beautiful works from the pioneering days of the medium such as early salt print images of Berlin, Italy, Egypt and many other subjects. The image of a pipe-smoking, scantily clad woman as a colored stereo daguerreotype circa 1850 is one of the highlights. A very rare and excellent album of the German-Danish War (1864) by C.F. Brandt and the signed print of a view of the fountain of Achmed III (1854) by Robertson & Beato are additional highlights. The 19th Century section ends with a group of 15 portraits of the participants of the Vaticanum I (1869/70) which are very finely hand-colored.

--- As mentioned at Lot #4104, in addition to a variety of other rare vintage photographs, we are offering a group of rare 20th century vintages from an excellent private collection, parts of which were offered once before in Cologne. However, the commercial insecurity surrounding September 11, 2001 prevented a successful sale. The collection includes many images of classic modernism, of the 'New Vision', as well as advertising photography and photographs of the German Fotoform movement. Our photography auction offers an exceptional occasion to acquire important vintage photographs by J.Breitenbach, F.Brill, H.Finsler, H.-H.Halke, F.Henri, P.Keetmann, G.Kepes, H.Lerski, G.Krull, H.List, W.Manz, L.Moholy, G.Petrusov, A.Renger-Patzsch, A.Stankowski and many others. Attractive contemporary and vintage photos by P.Beard, L.Clergue, R.Doisneau, H.Erfurth, A.Feininger, N.Goldin, R.Hausmann, A.Sander, O.Steinert etc. are also being offered and can be highly recommended.
