We, at Leland Little Auction & Estate Sales, are proud and excited to present Session I of the late Jeffrey Fried’s extensive hat collection. Fried’s collection, of local fame as “The Mad Hatter” of Durham, includes all manner, type, and age of hats which will be presented at the auction to be held June 11, 2005, 10 a.m. at the Leland Little Auction gallery located at 246 S. Nash St. in Hillsborough, NC. Some of the categories creating great interest among advertising enthusiasts, as well as hat collectors, are vintage hats from gas station/service station attendants, soda, bakery, ice cream, and beer delivery. Vintage transportation hats from railroads, airlines, taxi, motorcycles, and buses are extremely desirable, as are the fine and rare leather fireman helmets and 19th c. police hats known by the nickname “Keystone Cops.” Vintage men’s and women’s fashion hats, as well as specialty hats such as World’s Fair, Red Cross, Howdy Doody, Star Wars, Cowboy, and Scouts will also be sold. At the end of the catalogued portion of the auction we will be selling, to the live audience only, box lots consisting of fashion hats, caps, hat parts (emblems, covers, buttons, etc.), occupational, fun/one-of-a-kind hats, motorcycle visor hats, as well as other types. Session II, the military hat collection, will be offered in the fall of 2005. Stay posted for complete sale catalogue with photographs! Absentee, internet, and phone bidding available as well as bidding live in person at the auction gallery.
