Clocks and Watches
2022 will introduce a new format for sales in the Clocks, Watches & Scientific Instruments department at Skinner. Over the next twelve months we will be offering four curated sales, with a variety of watches being offered in all four sales and clocks and fine instruments making periodical appearances.
The first sale will run March 21 through the 31 and will offer classic sport and dress wristwatches including an early ?well worn? 1965 Rolex Explorer Gilt Dial Reference 1016, an early bubble-back 4329, and a variety of other contemporary and vintage pieces from the Wilsdorf empire?fine timepieces to suit newcomers to the world of horology and discerning collectors alike. If pocket watches are what draws you to timekeeping, we will offer examples from prestigious Swiss firms and illustrious American makers.
American clocks from rural to city communities will be offered in this sale, with a wonderful early Maine red-stained dwarf clock, an untouched Philadelphia bracket clock, and a documented Simon Willard lighthouse clock. Connecticut clockmakers from the firms of Burnap, Leavenworth, Thomas, and others will also be featured. A fine array of European clocks will also be available, including skeleton clocks and mid-19th century French mantel clocks. To round out the clock section there is a wonderful Walter Durfee mahogany hall clock with a handsomely carved mahogany case?Owen Burt will need to decide if this gets a pattern number!
