Asian Works of Art at Stair features fine and decorative arts from many cultures of the Far East including China, Japan, Korea, India and Southeast Asia. Highlighted is the collection of Dr. Charles Hayes, formed over the span of more than forty years. Fascinated by Japanese works of art and antiquities of East Asia, Dr. Hayes cultivated an impressive and varied group of objects that together display techniques and traditions established over centuries. Many of these works came from his continued patronage of a well-known dealer of Japanese Art regarded for his knowledge and taste. Also on offer are a selection of notable porcelain, pottery, hardstone, bronze, lacquer and carved wood objects. We are pleased to feature a dedicated group of Chinese, Japanese and Korean furniture ranging from simple huanghuali chairs to intricate lacquer chests. Presented alongside the decorative arts is an exciting group of fine art including bold and bright Indian gouaches, lyrical Chinese scrolls and graphic Japanese prints.
