American Hist. Ephemera & Photography - S1
Hindman's June 21 American Historical Ephemera and Photography Auction contains nearly 300 lots representing many significant moments and figures in our nation's history. From the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, Indian Wars, and westward expansion, to abolition and women's suffrage, the auction features property with broad appeal. Highlights include a half plate tintype showing Company D, 2nd Tennessee Cavalry Regiment in the field; an autograph letter signed by George Armstrong Custer to Captain George Yates, 7th Cavalry, Fort Yates, Dakota Territory, 11 June 1871, from the Forrest Fenn Collection; the Rosborough family archive, including letters relating to the California gold rush, the Modoc War, the Klondike gold rush, and early settlement and mining interests in Idaho, Nevada, and Texas; and items signed by George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Susan B. Anthony. Included are selections from the Forrest Fenn Collection, the Collection of Dr. Brant Mittler, the Collection of Tom Charles Huston, the Richard B. Cohen Civil War Collection, and the Stanley B. Burns, MD, Historic Medical Photography Collection.
Hindman strives to present historic materials in a manner that is respectful to all communities, providing descriptive contexts for objects where possible. The nature of historical ephemera is such that some material may represent positions, language, values and stereotypes that are not consistent with the values and practices at Hindman.
