Block's Marble Auction #1135

350 lot sale of antique, vintage and contemporary handmade and machine made marbles, and related items. The majority of this sale is the Estate of Catherine Kortvely, founder and former President of the Suncoast Marble Collectors Club. Selected handmade marbles have been added to round out the sale. According to Catherine's brother, J. Andy Adams, "Catherine Kortvely was a life long collector that was introduced to marbles by her mother, Christine Posey. Her mother had bought a jar of marbles at a flea market and recalled how she won a marble shooting contest when she was young. The two started tracking down the kind of marbles her mother played with as a child and a passion was started. Catherine founded the Suncoast Marble Collectors Society and hosted the Society's first show in 1992. She continued collecting marbles and hosting the marble show until the mid-2000's. A highlight of hers was participating in two of the Jabo contract runs to be part of the marble making process. Soon after, she resumed her education dream and completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology specializing in Genetics in 2007. She subsequently moved to Winter Park, Florida with her husband and pursued additional interests such as becoming a Master Gardner; all the while remaining an avid marble collector. Catherine passed in her sleep in 2017.".
