18th & 19th Century Lighting & Glass

Featuring part one of the outstanding lighting collection of Abigail and the late Edward Meyer of Plantsville, CT; the 30-year collection of Tom Heintzman of Hutchinson, KS; selections from the collection of Watt White of Stamford, CT; and deaccessioned material from a southern museum. Special Note: The importance of the Meyer collection cannot be overstated. For more than 40 years Ed and Abbie scoured the back woods of New England, urban centers of the East Coast, and throughout the Mid-Atlantic region in search of the best examples of early kerosene period lighting devices. Together they assembled over 250 outstanding specimens, each carefully chosen for a specific attribute or as an important representation within the narrative of 19th century American lighting. Ed was a pioneering student of period appropriate set-ups, and most of the lamps in the Meyer collection have been painstakingly outfitted with correct burners and chimneys in addition to shades where called for. We have chosen to sell each lamp configured as Ed and Abbie had them displayed in their home. The second half of their collection will be sold at our gallery next April in conjunction with the 2012 Rushlight Society Seminar hosted by JSE&A. We are most grateful that Abbie has entrusted us with this very special collection and hope that many of her and Ed's long-time friends will have the opportunity to attend one or both of their auctions.
