The majority of lots in this sale come from five major American institutions: THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM'S COSTUME COLLECTION, THE MONTCLAIR HISTORICAL SOCIETY, CHRYSLER MUSEUM, OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY & THE FASHION INSTITUTE OF DESIGN & MERCHANDISING MUSEUM. Other selections come from estates and important private collections. Offered at this sale are two military jackets owned and worn by WWII legend & hero, General Jimmy Doolittle. Doolittle famously led the air campaign to bomb Tokyo right after Pearl Harbor, for which he was awarded The Medal of Honor. His medal is now on display at the Smithsonian's Air & Space Museum. This sale is overflowing with couture garments by DIOR, BALENCIAGA, NORELL, SCHIAPARELLI, SCAASI, YSL, CHANEL, etc. Many other designers, both American & European, are well represented. This sale also includes rare handmade laces from the estate of early 20th C. renowned lace dealer & collector, Marion Powys. Laces to be auctioned include 2 wedding veils, an 18th C 5-piece Alencon lace accessory set for formal dress, shawls, flounces and a lace collar with flying planes made for Mrs. Charles Lindbergh. Also from Anne Morrow Lindbergh comes a collection of very rare 1790-1860s Mexican micro-beaded bags & containers - each a small & rare jewel. The couture dress that Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, Jr. wore to Tricia Nixon's White House wedding, along with the wedding invitation and other ephemera will be a featured lot at the sale. We have garments & accessories for women dating from 1750-2000; children's clothing from 1790-1910 & a man's original ZOOT SUIT!!
