Chinese bronzes, porcelain, Japanese arts
Day 2 of our 4-day Asian arts sale comprises a fine selection of Chinese taste porcelain, one of the best we've ever had. This is followed up by blue and white Kangxi porcelain, also an impressive selection. Our favourite, for example, is the very large Kangxi mark and period dish with a beauty, lot 552! Lot 618, a small blue and white dish with the poet Wang Xizhi is at least as attractive, with the rare Yi You Ding Yu Ya Zhi mark on the base. 638, the beautiful sancai dish, is another absolute highlight. Originally made for the Kangxi emperor, the dish is a rare example where quality and originality found eachother. In the bronze section, a number of large bronze sculptures immediately catch the eye. Lots 668 and 669 for example, are two impressive Ming bronzes from a single owner collection. In the Japanese section, it's the two blue and white 'van Frytom' lots that really do stand out, lots 729 and 730!
