Our February auction is composed of material from Philadelphia, Bucks County, and Chester County collections and estates. Highlights include English and Continental furniture such as a Charles II Japanned cabinet on stand, a flame birch Northern European armoire and a William IV Pollard oak cellarette. Asian pieces feature an assembled pair of Wucai porcelain jars, two very finely carved Chinese joss stick holders, and a pair of Japanese export lacquer knife boxes. Fine art includes a 17th century Dutch portrait of a woman and works by Amelia Pelaez, Eusebio Sempere, William Langson Lathrop, Walter Granville-Smith, Andre Cottavoz, Giovanni and Antonio Martino, Elizabeth Quale O'Neill Verner and Andre Gisson. Of special note is a large collection of American and International gold and silver coins, rare early maps, a collection of art and decorative objects related to Cuba and Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson, first edition and first printing.
