Two-Day Fine Estate Auction

This comprehensive Auction sale, our first of the fall season, will include furniture represented by virtually every major style and country, including the Louis XV, Louis XVI, Empire and provincial styles of France, highlighted by an exceptional 18th century Louis XIV finely carved, decorated and gilded marble top console, an elegant and scarce pair of Louis XVI style en grisaille' painted consoles with conforming mirrors, a superb 18th century country French fruitwood buffet a deux corps and a three-piece Empire style bronze mounted mahogany upholstered suite, circa 1880; the Empire, Regency, Victorian, Chippendale and Georgian styles of England include a superb 19th century set of eight Chippendale style carved mahogany dining chairs and a stately inlaid mahogany shaped front Georgian style sideboard of unusually large dimensions, circa 1880; a variety of special furniture is also featured, including a magnificent 17 foot long, 7 feet wide oval mahogany boardroom table, circa 1950, custom-made for the corporate Headquarters of Texaco, as well as a large 19th century European rococo style glazed ceramic stove from the Ben Milam Estate. Showcased will be an excellent array of 18th, 19th and 20th century paintings, watercolors, drawings, lithographs and other fine art, including an extremely rare original allegorical engraving by Amos Doolittle - entitled "America", (one of only three known copies to exist, the other two being in major institutional collections). Also offered will be works by Dorothy Hood, Stephen Lorber, Robert Goodnough, a follower of Antoine Pesne, and Fr. Hagenbucher. Fine oil paintings from the 15th, 17th and 18th century Italian and Flemish Schools include Gottlob Heinrich Bruckner, a follower of Jacopo Tintoretto, School of Antoniazzo Roman (Antonio Aquila), School of David Teniers and others; also two numbered lithographs after Picasso, from the "Imaginary Portrait" suite will be offered, and finally, a rare painting on porcelain by Charles Ethan Porter and more. Additionally featured will be a highly collectible Babe Ruth autographed baseball with a Spence letter of authenticity, an Abraham Lincoln autographed note (requesting a legal opinion from the U.S. Attorney General); an extremely fine 19th century European carved ivory and ebonized plaque of "The Five Senses", a rare monumental pair of Chinese cloisonne palace vases, circa 1890-1900; as well as selections of china, crystal - including a selection of special edition large Baccarat sculptures, sterling silver and silverplate, mirrors, chandeliers, sconces, candelabra, lamps, including a superb 19th century pair in bronze dore' mounted cobalt porcelain; clocks, as well as a 19th century provincial style walnut tall case hall clock, and a superb collection of estate and designer jewelry. Finally, a wonderful selection of estate and new Oriental rugs and tapestries will also be included.
