Estate of Muriel Gantz & Other Fine Estates

Our May 23rd Anniversary Fine Estates Auction begins with 280 lots comprising the Estate of Muriel Gantz, Greenwich CT. Muriel and her husband John, who pre-deceased her, were well-known collectors who frequented all the major antiques shows and other events beginning in the mid 1960's, and purchased from many distinguished dealers. The collection includes fine American and English formal and country furniture and decorations, fine European porcelain, fine art and folk art, an exceptional group of early brass, and a truly amazing collection of miniatures. Lots 300 to 683 includes the estate paintings of Eugene F. Savage, noted American muralist who lived the later part of his life in Woodbury, Connecticut; property from a West End Avenue NYC estate with interesting and eclectic European furnishings and fine art; and over two hundred lots from several other fine estates and collections including Asian decorative arts, American, English and Continental furniture and decorative arts, folk art and American country furniture, early English & other sterling silver, jewelry, fine art, miscellaneous decorative arts, and estate oriental rugs. The Savage estate collection comprises over 45 individual artworks fresh to the market directly from a descendant of the artist. Eugene Francis Savage (1883-1978) was an American realist and surrealist painter known for his mural, genre, figure and landscape works. He studied at the American Academy in Rome, the Corcoran School of Art, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and taught at Yale School of Fine Art.
