Belle Epoque

The September 28 auction at Doyle New York showcases fine and decorative arts reflecting the opulence of the Belle Epoque. Extravagant furniture and decorations of the Louis XV and XVI revivals, Victorian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras will be offered, as well as art glass, porcelain, silver, marble statues, bronzes, ivories, clocks, sconces, chandeliers, rugs, and a selection of Tiffany Studios articles. A feature of the sale will be 17th through 20th century furniture, decorations and paintings from the estate of acclaimed jewelry designer Helen Woodhull. The selection of offerings by Tiffany Studios includes a patinated-bronze and favrile glass spider lamp (lot 3307), a favrile glass Narcissus paperweight vase (lot 3303), and an unusual green glazed earthenware vase (lot 3308). The auction also includes an extensive Tiffany & Company flatware service in the Persian pattern (lot 3248); porcelain by Meissen, Sevres, Royal Crown Derby, KPM, Mintons, Royal Vienna and Royal Worcester; and art glass by Daum, Lalique, Argy-Rousseau, Tiffany Favrile, and Steuben pieces. Other notable offerings include fine bronzes, a collection of portrait miniatures, and several Steinway baby grand pianos. The fine art section of the sale offers works by Paul Antoine de la Boulaye, Jean-Jaques Henner, Albertus Verhoesen, Pal Fried, Stefan Novo, Ferdinand Pitard, Jean Pierre Dubord, William P. Sherlock, William Adolphus Knell, Laszlo Neogrady and Yolande Ardissone, among others.
