Pocket Watches & Accessories

Our second Pocket Watch & Accessories sale of 2012 begins with a fine example of Horological engineering in the form of an 18k Grande Sonnerie pocket repeater signed Courvoisier Freres. With an estimate of £5,000-8,000, this lot represents the opportunity for the discerning collector to own a piece of complicated micro-mechanics for a fraction of the price of a similar wrist watch mechanism. Less visually spectacular, but no less laudable; lot 5 is a pocket watch signed Barraud & Lunds with an up down power reserve indicator set to twelve o'clock. With an estimate set at £1,000-1,500, this is an attractive well made piece. The Eighteenth Century, Georgian & Early Continental section of our sale is full of fascinating pieces from all through the period. Two early simple pair case pieces, lots 26 and 27, are estimated at £500-700 apiece. Signed Etherington and Aubrey respectively, these are interesting pieces with earlier form pillars and silvered dials. In contrast; lot 29 is a decorated piece by Fres Deroche with a painted enamel scene, estimated at £400-600. The major brands are accounted for also, with lots by Rolex, Omega and Patek Philippe prevalent in the sale. In particular, lot 69 is an attractive earlier Patek, Philippe & Cie watch with an of estimate £2,000-2,500. Lot 226 is a continental white metal Hydrographic Service issue deck watch by Vacheron & Constantin, complete with its outer safety case. With an estimate of £1,200-1,800, this lot is an exemplar of a high end maker creating a more utilitarian tool piece. But on opening the watch, the standards of finish are everything one would expect from such a prestige brand. We are also delighted to offer free shipping on lots weighing less that 2kg and with a value under £15,000.
