This Summer Clars will hold our exciting Design, Art + Asian Art auction, showcasing a wide range of treasures. Highlights from the Design will include a pair of T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings Slipper Lounge Chairs and Ottoman, and a T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings Sofa, Model 1711. Other designers include Mario Bellini, Marguerite Wildenhain, Clyde Burt, Betty Feves, Paolo Soleri, Julian Watts, Ward Bennett, Daum, Burgun, Schverer & Cie, among others. There will also be a selection of coins, as well as traditional decorative arts and furniture. Our Asian Art Department will offer a magnificent Chinese imperial ‘dragon’ rug once belonged to The Palace of Great Benevolence, also known in Chinese Jingrengong. The Palace of Great Benevolence is one of the Six Eastern Palaces in the inner court of the Forbidden City. From its construction in 1420 to 1924 when the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) was driven out, this palace had been the residence for imperial concubines. In addition a fine selection jade, porcelain, glazed pottery, antique textiles, scrolls and paintings. Clars Art Department are pleased to offer a selection of modern and contemporary pieces this month, including a painting by Henrietta Berk, photographs by William Laven, and prints by Sister Corita Kent. Also featured are turn of the century American paintings by artists including William Keith and John Wells James.
