Authentic African Artifacts Collection
Dual platform auction of ZENE GIBSON - AN AMAZING COLLECTION OF AUTHENTIC AFRICAN ARTIFACTS, CLOTHING & JEWELRY.
A note from Talibah, Zene's Daughter,
These items are authentic as known by the family of the collector.
During my mom's first trip to South Africa, she met kindred spirits, artists and clothing designers that introduced her to more art than she could house. As local people became more and more interested in buying art, my mom's business Africentricity was born.
Africentricity was not only a way to sell art, it was a platform for my mother to educate her community about African history and culture.
Her friendships with the artists she met in Africa were a direct connection to bringing a unique experience to the city. My mom was able to create displays for local school events, she showcased art for major concerts, and hosted events for people looking to bring art into their homes.
She always dreamed about having a home in the Boston Edison District and selling African art from 829 Chicago was a joy for her!
Zene lived an abundant and extraordinary life!
She was born Frances L. Johnson on Monday, Valentines Day, February 14, 1949 in Detroit's Historic Black Bottom to Willie and Ernest Johnson. After being double promoted for her academic accomplishments, she graduated as Best Dressed & Class Secretary from Northwestern High School Class of 1966. She then attended the HBCU Wilberforce University (in Wilberforce, OH) and was the first person in her family to earn a bachelors degree in 1970.
After returning to Detroit, Frances was hired as one of the first black female probation officers for the State Of Michigan Department Of Corrections. Frances then attended The Shrine Of The Black Madonna where she was baptized and renamed as Zene Diallo, with the intention of revolutionizing racial tensions and empowering her community. That intention was fulfilled throughout her work personally and professionally as she touched so many lives.
