VICKERY NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIFACT COLLECTION

The first 100 lots of this auction are artifacts from the private collection of the late Dr. Kent D. Vickery. Dr. Vickery taught at the University of Cincinnati Department of Anthropology from 1970 to 2004. During his career, he taught anthropology and archaeology, conducted yearly field schools, and was appointed by then-governor James Rhodes to the Ohio State Preservation Office. He authored and co-authored numerous publications relating to Ohio Valley archaeology. This collection was assembled by Dr. Vickery as a teaching collection for students of Midwestern Prehistory. It is strongest in projectile point typology, and each of these mounts of projectile points was used as either learning tools or testing groups for students, mainly in Kents projectile identification classes. There are over 1600 projectile points and bifaces in this teaching collection. The auction also consists of other Native American items including pottery, weavings & other artifacts.
