INDIAN SPLENDOURS
Indian gems and paintings from two Italian collections and a selection of modern and contemporary Indian art.
Baias arte proposes a catalogue focusing on the collections of expert travellers and lovers of the subcontinent and of a scholar who has made her passion for India a profession. The catalogue opens with a selection of Indian jewellery from the Mutti collection, the same collection to which we had already dedicated an exhibition last April.
Italian collectors of niche sectors such as Indian art all knew each other by name and loved to compare notes, sometimes choosing to travel together in search of distant places from which to bring back precious memories.
This is the case of the collector from Veneto, an occasional travelling companion of the architect Mutti, who entrusted us with part of his collection of royal jewellery and paintings, the subject of the second section of this catalogue.
The last part of the sale is dedicated to the small collection of an Indologist by profession who, during her thirty-year frequent travels to India, turned her attention to the contemporary art of those areas, alongside her archaeological fieldwork.
