Estate of Angela G. Folk Fine Silver Auction

Neal Auction Company is pleased to present this single-owner session of fine silver from the Estate of Angela Gross Folk on November 9, 2023. While largely American, the Folk Collection encompasses objects from various countries of origin and time periods. These objects illustrate the evolution of styles and forms, as well as the significance of silver and its role in material culture. The inclusion of eight tea services, not to mention the many related accoutrements, speaks to the importance of the service of tea in the social life of times past. As to the plethora of other forms, the inimitable Miss Manners said it best: ?In the time of great financial boom?as Miss Manners likes to think of the Industrial Revolution?all kinds of strange implements were invented, and if you are rich and clever enough, you can set a table on which, as a lady of Miss Manners? acquaintance says of her inherited silver, it is not clear whether dinner is to be served or a hysterectomy performed.? Ref.: Martin, Judith. Miss Manners? Guide to Exceedingly Correct Behavior, p. 377.
